FARO FLOOR LAMP

Fara - Floor Lamp

A dark ceramic cylinder sits at the floor, housing the light source inside it. From there, a tall column of sinamay rises, hand-sewn, slightly irregular, the seam visible running the full length of the shade, catching the light from below and scattering it upward through the open weave. The brass ball finial sits quietly at the top.
Everything here was made by hand. The ceramic base was thrown and fired in the studio. The shade was sewn by hand from undyed sinamay, a woven straw fiber rooted in millinery tradition. The irregularities are part of it.
The piece reads as sculpture first. The light is almost incidental.
One of a kind.
Handbuilt black stoneware base, hand-sewn sinamay shade, unfinished brass hardware
